I began teaching at Hempstead Elementary in August 2017. I am beginning my second year in Hempstead ISD. I teach fourth grade English language arts and reading and social studies.
I began my teaching career eighteen years ago in fourth grade teaching all subjects. I moved from there to fifth grade science. Later, I taught sixth grade English language arts and reading for a brief couple of years, but my heart is with elementary. I returned to my home campus and taught math and science for fifth grade. I taught a total of fifteen years at my home campus, South Ward Elementary in Longview ISD, Longview, Texas. I taught two years in Bryan ISD, Bryan, Texas. When my ESL certification was really needed, I taught third grade for two years in Navasota ISD, Navasota, Texas before getting hired in Hempstead. I have returned to the grade level I love, fourth grade. I love reading and writing, I love teaching, and I love the people with whom I work.
I am the mother of five adult children and soon to be eleven grandchildren. My youngest daughter is having her second little girl in October. I have two grandsons who live in Burbank, California. They are pursuing their careers as actors. They have been on episodes of the television drama Code Black, Lethal Weapon, and This is Us. The oldest, Aiden, will appear in upcoming episodes of S.W.A.T, and NCIS: Las Angeles. Jonny, his little brother, is in a movie with Keke Palmer that is set to release around the holidays this year. I love spending time with my children and grandchildren. It isn’t a party until all of my children get together.
I like to read for enjoyment in my spare time. If it is interesting, I will read it. Literary or informational – it does not really matter if it peaks my interest. I also enjoy sewing. When I was recooperating from knee surgery last summer, I decided to make pillows for my sofa. Using technology is a favorite activity of mine because I like to create interesting avenues to present lessons to my students. If I had more time in the day, I would teach more technology to my students.
