Our Classroom:

I want to give all my students a BIG welcome to 5th Grade Science.  I am so excited for the many things we will accomplish this school year, and I hope you are too. Our classroom is based on a foundation of respect, kindness, safety, and hard work. Each student’s success and safety is the priority. It is my goal that all students feel encouraged, supported, and empowered.  Expectations for our class are treating others the way we want to be treated, maintaining positive attitudes, doing our very best, and learning a lot! 



-Major Grades (Tests, Projects, ect.) = minimum 3, maximum 4

-Daily Grades (Homework, Classwork, ect.) = minimum 18


Per HISD Curriculum Guidelines: after reviewing the material, the student can correct the missed questions. Students making below a 70%, can correct ‘up to’ a 70%. If a student makes between 70%-90%, then the student can correct missed questions for 1 additional point ‘each’, making no higher than 5 additional points. The teacher MUST record the score in the grade book immediately


-Lab Grade and Participation

Students will follow all lab instructions to ensure a safe lab environment.  Students who display dangerous behavior will be removed for their safety and not be able to participate in future experiments.


Classroom Management Plan 

The purpose of a classroom management plan is to hold students accountable for misbehavior. Every student is expected to: 

  • Listen and follow directions

  • Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat

  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself

  • Respect your classmates and teacher. 


If a student fails to follow the student expectations the following will occur:

  1. Warning

  2. Loss of Privilege

  3. Parent conference

  4. Office referral

Fifth grade science will address the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
