Hempstead Elementary Students Recognized by Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo for Artistic Talent

Best of Show went to Esteban Vidal, a 4th grader, for his “Wildflower” colored drawing. Jayden Perez, a 5th grader, was the Gold Medal winner for his “Drop Em at the Door” colored drawing.

As the Best of Show and Gold Medal winners, Vidal and Perez will have their artwork displayed at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo this year.

In addition, three fifth graders were recognized as finalists in the competition. They included: Andrew Salinas for his “Sunset Steed” colored drawing, Jasmine Rodriguez for her “First Bluebonnets” colored drawing, and Kelci Tejeda for her “Hold on Tight” colored drawing. These students received Award of Excellence ribbons from the HLSR.

Students who participate must follow the guidelines set out by the HLSR School Art Program. The unique art program promotes an awareness of agriculture, Western Heritage and show activities through artistic competitions and is one of the many ways the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo supports education at Hempstead ISD while encouraging and rewarding our youth for their talents and abilities.
